Some favorite Portland Bike Rides - Mount Tabor
Mount Tabor Park is one of my favorite Portland recreational bike rides. Of course, Portland has so much great urban riding available, but Mount Tabor is very special.
On Wednesday evenings, the Mount Tabor Park is closed to cars after 5pm. It's a treat to ride on these evenings as the pedestrians, skateboarders, joggers, strollers, dogs, and bikes, swell the roads that are usually access roads for cars.
For about 6 weeks every summer, usually starting in June and continuing into July, these Wednesday evenings in the park are a weekly criterium bike racing series. The bike race uses just a part of the park's roads, and all the dirt trails are unused so it is still possible to enjoy the park and to see some great bike racing.
Mount Tabor has a fun series of dirt trails which can entertain mountain bike riders for a fun afternoon. The park is also popular with road bike racers enjoying the hill training, as well as lots of recreational bike riders just enjoying a great view from the top where you get great vistas in all directions (but you might have to navigate to different areas of the park for West view, East view etc.). Pictured below, the view from the top of Mount Tabor looking West with Hawthorne Blvd. below into downtown Portland with the West Hills on the horizon.

Mount Tabor Park - Resources
Mount Tabor has a dog off leash area. The City of Portland can help you to reserve picnic areas for special events. Below are links to pdf files for the maps to these areas, whether you want to bike, jog, stroll, or walk your dog, have fun!

Michael A. Colbach, Portland Bike Accident Attorney
I raced for the Presto Velo team, which is now the Bicycleattorney.com/racing team and I am their main cash sponsor and the main attorney and host of this site.
I have put in over 30,000 miles on my bike and know what it is like to have to deal with careless car drivers. I am dedicated to helping injured cyclists, as oftentimes car drivers and insurance companies try and blame the cyclists just because they are on a bike.
